And while the sheriff and the king are arguing, the said Petey Pepperpot, unbalanced thief, is also quarreling with an impoverished peasant woman who was about to feed her children their last chicken. And all this among lots of inedible blue bananas that are forever frozen cold.

Y mientras el sheriff y el rey discuten, dicho Pedrito Botepimienta, ladrón desequilibrado, también está discutiendo con una labradora venida a mucho menos que iba a dar de comer a sus hijos su última gallina. Y todo esto entre cantidad de plátanos azules  incomestibles que están siempre ateridos por el frío.

What? Of course we’ll wait here. We have nowhere to go. Why don’t you just give us back the chicken and steal some other thing for that fellow? This doesn’t make any sense.

Don’t worry, lady!  I’m not going to eat this. I am by habit a vegetarian, and though last Christmas I tasted meat for the first time in my life, I don’t remember having eaten a live animal before. I advise you not to eat this chicken either. I don’t know very well what it takes to make a chicken lay eggs, but if you eat her, it’s certain she won’t give any. But you have given me an idea when you told Pepperpot to go rob the castle. I will do just that. I’ll go up there and I’ll return with a cock and a few hens if you promise me you won’t eat any animal that hasn’t died of old age. And don’t worry about me. I’m sure to return. I’m not just anybody.

Descuide, señora. No pienso comerme esto. Yo soy por costumbre vegetariano y aunque la navidad pasada probé la carne por primera vez, no recuerdo haberme nunca comido un animal vivo. Le recomiendo a usted que tampoco lo haga. Mire, yo no sé muy bien que hace falta para que una gallina ponga huevos, pero si se la comen, seguro que no pone ninguno ya más. Mas me ha dado usted una idea al mandarle a Botepimienta a robar al castillo. Voy a hacerlo yo. Volveré con un gallo y unas cuantas gallinas para usted si me promete que no se comerá a ningún animal que no muera de viejo. Y no se preocupe por mí. De seguro regresaré. No soy cualquiera.
