I was never bored during the summer holidays. I woke up every morning bathed in the earliest sunlight. I had brekfast outdoors. I rode my bicycle. I went to the library for books to read. I helped my dad with his stamp collection. I went fishing and had picnics on the banks of a river with my friends. I went to the swimming pool twice a week. I watered the plants every evening and I gathered cherries and blackberries. I sewed some simple sundresses and bikinis for my little sister and me. I made cool gazpacho soup and lemonade and sugar cookies. My mum was very happy to have me at home because she loved me and enjoyed my company and because I helped her wash and hang the clothes. I ironed for her at night, because it was cooler, in a balcony under the moonlight. We went to the market and to the supermarket together. Times have changed, I suppose. But I had so much fun I still do all those things. Look, children, take the candy and snacks that were left over from the goodbye party with you. But don´t eat this stuff on the bus. Oh, good heavens! A little girl up a tree! We must bring her down immediately!

Yo nunca me aburría en vacaciones. Me despertaba todas las mañanas bañada en la primera luz del sol. Desayunaba al aire libre. Montaba en bici, iba a la biblioteca a sacar libros, ayudaba a mi padre con su colección de sellos, pescaba y comía bocatas en la orilla del río, iba a la piscina dos veces por semana, regaba las plantas al atardecer y recolectaba cerezas y moras. Cosía vestidos de verano y bikinis para mi y para mi hermanita. Hacía gazpacho y limonada y galletas de azúcar. Mi mamá estaba encantada de tenerme en casa porque me quería y disfrutaba de mi compañía y porque yo la ayudaba a lavar y colgar la ropa. Yo planchaba para ella en un balcón a la luz de la luna porque hacía más fresco allí. Íbamos al mercado y al supermercado juntas. En fin, eran otros tiempos. Pero lo curioso es que me lo pasaba tan bien que todavía hago todas esas cosas. A ver, niños, llevaros las chuches que sobraron de la fiesta de fin de curso. Pero no las comáis en el autobús. ¡Ay, mi madre! ¡Una criatura subida a un árbol! ¡Hay que bajarla inmediatamente!
