They say November is a gray month. This brings to my mind the Graiai, in English, the Grey Sisters.

Dicen que Noviembre es un mes gris. Esto me hace pensar en las Grayas, en español, las Hermanas Grises.



These ladies are three in number and live in a cave close to the Garden of the Hesperides, at the western end of the flat world of Greek mythology. They were born old and grey but their faces are beautiful, at least when they keep their eyelids down and their mouths shut, for they have only one eye and one tooth between all three. These they have always shared in perfect harmony, taking turns to use them without any cheating. 

Estas damas son tres en número y viven en una cueva cercana al Jardín de las Hespérides, que está en el lado occidental del fin del plano mundo de la mitología griega. Nacieron ya viejas y canosas pero sus caras son hermosas, por lo menos mientras mantienen los párpados bajados y la boca cerrada, pues sólo tienen un ojo y un diente entre las tres. Siempre los han compartido turnándose en perfecta armonía sin hacer trampa alguna.

The bodies of these ladies are graceful as those of swans and they are as light as the white foam of the sea. Although they are quite stylish and like to dress well - one of them is always on the best-dressed list - it is not often that one can get to see how posh they are because they only come out of their dwelling when there is neither sun nor moon in the sky.

Los cuerpos de estas señoras son gráciles como los de cisnes y son tan ligeras como la blanca espuma del mar. Aunque son muy estilosas y gustan de vestir bien - una de ellas siempre figura en las listas de las mejor vestidas - no hay muchas ocasiones en las que luzcan en público porque sólo salen de su morada cuando no hay ni sol ni luna en el cielo.

They are very wise. In fact, there is nothing in the world that they don't know, so if you have a difficult question to ask, they are the ones to apply to. But...their names don't encourage visits.

Son muy sabias. De hecho, no hay nada en el mundo que no sepan, así que si buscas la respuesta a una pregunta difícil, lo mejor es acudir a ellas. Pero...sus nombres no animan a uno a visitarlas.

The first is called Deino the Terrible and her name means Dread. The second is Enyo the Warlike. Her name means Horror. And the third is Persis the destructive, also known as the Wasp. Her name means Alarm. 

La primera se llama Dino la Terrible y su nombre significa Temor. La segunda es Enio la Guerrera. Su nombre se traduce por Horror. Y la tercera es Persis la Destructora, también conocida como la Avispa. Su nombre significa Alarma.

We will have more to say about them another day, but this will have to do for now.

Tendremos más que decir sobre ellas otro día, pero esto tendrá que bastar por hoy.
