Nauta´s Mini Mythology - The Winds, Flora, the Dryads, Mars / Mini Mitología de Nauta - Los Vientos, Flora, las Driades, Marte

Nauta

March is a windy month so I´m going to tell you about the winds. And given the big fuss about Minced Woods, I´m going to tell you about the dryads, the ladies of the trees.

The Winds / Los Vientos

Aeolus is the king of the winds. He lives in an island where he keeps all the winds in vast caves and lets them out when he pleases. Sometimes he sends a favorable wind to help people he likes, but he can also send wild winds that cause shipwrecks and other disasters.

The most famous winds are those of the four corners of the world. Boreas, the North Wind, has serpent tails for feet. He brings the snow and the cold. The South Wind, Notus, is the wind of fogs and mists. He is venerated by thieves, because he helps them do their business. Eurus is the East Wind and he brings warmth and rain from the East. The West Wind is called Zephyr, and he is the protector of plants and flowers. One of his girlfriends is the goddess Chloris, better known by her Latin name, Flora. She is the goddess of plants and flowers.

The Dryads / Las Driades

These nymphs are the ladies of the trees. Each dryad has her own tree. She is born when that tree is born, and she dies when it dies. A person who kills a tree kills one of these ladies. That is why in Ancient Greece it was considered sacrilege to cut down a tree unjustly and there are stories about the terrible punishments inflicted on people who did this. There are families of dryads, just as there are families of trees. The Epimelides are the dryades of fruit trees, the Daphnaiae are the ladies of the laurel trees, the Hamadryads are the nymphs of oak and poplar trees, etc.,.

Ehhh...Mars, I´m sure you are invited to Trimalchion´s Spring Fling. Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, is going to be there and you are sweet on her, aren´t you? A lot of handsome young men are attending and she might go off with someone else if you aren´t looking your best. It would be a pity because you make such a handsome couple. What are you going to wear?

¿Qué ropa vas a llevar?

Mars

Wear? I have no idea. But I´m always dressed to kill.

¿Llevar? No tengo ni idea. Pero siempre voy vestido para matar.

Nauta

I´m afraid your look is rather out. Why don´t you drop by Nausica´s blog and ask Lukinotakis to create something for you? He can even fix your hair and tidy your moustache. He´s opened a beauty parlour only recently. Here´s the address of the beauty parlour.
